Moscow refinery and the Sofyino logistics complex struck on 20 September
Overnight into 20 September 2026, the Ukrainian Defence Forces conducted a major long-range operation against Russia’s fuel and logistics infrastructure. The Moscow oil refinery in Kapotnya and a large logistics complex in Sofyino outside Moscow were struck.
Reports also emerged of an attack on CHP‑22 in Dzerzhinsky, which supplies process steam to the Moscow refinery.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed strikes on a strategic oil facility and a major logistics target in the Moscow region. The operation involved the Security Service of Ukraine, Defence Intelligence, the Special Operations Forces, the Unmanned Systems Forces and the Foreign Intelligence Service.
Strike on the Moscow refinery in Kapotnya
The Moscow refinery is one of Russia’s largest oil-processing facilities and a key part of the capital’s fuel infrastructure. Owned by Gazprom Neft, it can process around 11–12 million tonnes of crude oil a year.
Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces separately confirmed the strike on the Moscow refinery. The precise equipment damage and the attack’s effect on production are still being assessed.
Sofyino logistics complex struck
The second confirmed target was a large warehouse complex in Sofyino, Ramenskoye district, Moscow Oblast.
According to Fire Point, Ukrainian FP‑1 long-range drones were used in the strike. Preliminary information identifies the target as a six-building complex operated by Sovremennye Skladskie Tekhnologii, with a total area of about 290,000 square metres.
What is known about the strike on CHP‑22
Explosions were also reported near CHP‑22 in Dzerzhinsky, Moscow Oblast, overnight into 20 September. Videos of the attack were published in open sources, and OSINT analysts geolocated the incident to the area of the power station.
CHP‑22 has an installed electricity-generating capacity of 1,365 MW and supplies power and heat to south-eastern Moscow, Dzerzhinsky and much of the Lyubertsy district. It also provides the Moscow refinery with process steam needed by its production units.
Results of the 20 September strikes
Ukraine used several domestically produced long-range systems in the operation, including FP‑1, RZ‑100, MICH‑2000, Palianytsia, Liutyi, Flamingo, Sichen and Pelican.
Under the Demilitarizator methodology, the Moscow refinery, the Sofyino logistics complex and CHP‑22 are counted as three new strikes on 20 September. Other reports from the night have not been added pending reliable identification of the targets and effects.
The updated totals are at least 820 strikes in 2026 and 33 in September, including at least 97 refinery and gas-processing targets, 21 logistics hubs and 15 energy infrastructure sites.
