Ukraine strikes Russian targets: drones, aviation and oil refineries — report for 5 October 2026
Ukraine’s Defence Forces hit an attack-drone launch site in Donetsk, a drone depot and a command post near Berdiansk. The General Staff reported operations carried out on 4 October and overnight into 5 October 2026. Separate satellite imagery reports describe the aftermath of earlier strikes on Khanskaya airbase, the Ilsky oil refinery and the Samara oil dispatch station.
Donetsk: attack-drone launch site and communications node hit
According to Ukraine’s General Staff, a Russian attack-drone storage, preparation and launch site was hit near temporarily occupied Donetsk. A communications node used by the occupation forces was also targeted.
These facilities support Russian drone attacks and the command of military units. The General Staff says that systematic strikes on such sites aim to reduce Russia’s ability to use attack drones against Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure.
Command post, drone depot and repair unit hit in Zaporizhzhia Oblast
Near Berdiansk, Ukraine’s Defence Forces struck a Russian command post and a drone depot. A Russian repair unit was hit near Liubymivka in Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
The General Staff also reported strikes on concentrations of Russian personnel near Komysh-Zoria, Uspenka and Donetsk. These operations share the stated timeframe of 4 October and overnight into 5 October; no separate strike date was provided for each target.
Ukraine’s Defence Ministry assesses damage to Russian oil refining capacity
In a statement published on 4 October, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence said that long-range operations had put more than 51% of Russia’s oil refining capacity out of action. According to the defence minister, the assessment was prepared by intelligence agencies and analysts from the General Staff and the Ministry of Defence.
This is an assessment of the cumulative effects of Ukrainian operations, rather than the results of strikes in a single day.
Unmanned Systems Forces report a new daily record
On 5 October, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) published their results for 4 October: 2,783 targets hit or destroyed, including 637 enemy personnel casualties. Of those, 301 servicemen were killed.
The total of 637 enemy personnel casualties in a day set a new record for the Unmanned Systems Forces grouping.
