Strikes on Russia, 11 October: Yandex data centre in Vladimir shuts down
Overnight into 11 October 2026, drones attacked a Yandex data centre in Russia’s Vladimir Oblast. Reports followed of the facility shutting down and disruptions to Yandex Cloud and other company services. It is the third Yandex data centre reported attacked in four days.
Demilitarizator brings together information about the overnight attack, reports from Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces and new General Staff confirmations published on 11 October.
What is known about the attack on the Vladimir data centre
The facility is located in the Energetik neighbourhood near the Russian city of Vladimir. Monitoring channels published footage of the attack overnight. According to Ukrainian media citing the company, the data centre stopped operating.
At around four in the morning, reports emerged of power supply problems in the Yandex Cloud availability zone associated with the site. Disruptions to Yandex Music, Telemost, smart-home services and cloud infrastructure were reported amid the attack. The precise extent of physical damage and the timetable for restoring operations have not yet been established.
Data centres keep servers, databases and digital services running. Their shutdown can therefore affect both app users and companies that host websites and business systems in the cloud.
Yandex attack aftermath: disruptions to taxis, deliveries and payments
Further reports emerged on 11 October about the effects of the overnight attack on Yandex’s data centre in Vladimir. Disruptions extended beyond music, video calls and smart-home services: users also reported problems booking taxis, ordering food deliveries and using some payment services.
The data centre shutdown also affects third-party companies that use Yandex Cloud infrastructure. Dependence on shared server capacity means disruptions can affect multiple apps and business services at the same time. The full extent of the disruption and the timetable for recovery remain unknown.
The third Yandex data centre attacked in four days
The attack in Vladimir followed two earlier incidents:
- 8 October — a data centre in Sasovo, Ryazan Oblast, was hit. Satellite imagery showed damage to the building after a fire.
- 9 October — a data centre in Kaluga was attacked. Reports described damage to part of its infrastructure and the shutdown of individual modules.
- 11 October — the Vladimir data centre was attacked, followed by reports that it had stopped operating.
Reported fire near air-defence positions outside Sochi
Separately, Exilenova+ reported a detected fire near Russian air-defence positions outside Sochi following the overnight attack.
The information remains preliminary: the equipment involved and the actual effects have not been established. There is currently insufficient evidence to claim that a specific air-defence system was destroyed.
Ukraine confirms strikes on a Russian repair unit and supply depots
On 10 October and overnight into 11 October 2026, Ukraine’s Defence Forces struck Russian military facilities in the temporarily occupied parts of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. Ukraine’s General Staff reported the results on 11 October.
An enemy repair unit was hit near Chystiakove in Donetsk Oblast. Ukrainian forces also struck supply depots near Makiivka and Horodyshche. Such facilities are used to repair equipment and supply Russian units with resources.
The General Staff also confirmed strikes on concentrations of Russian troops near Purdivka, Lysychansk and Irmino in Luhansk Oblast.
Unmanned Systems Forces: 2,370 targets struck on 10 October
On the morning of 11 October, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces published results for the previous day, 10 October. According to their report, units of the grouping struck 2,370 enemy targets.
