Why Ukraine did not attack Russian refineries overnight into 12 October
Ukraine refrained from striking Russian energy infrastructure overnight into 12 October 2026. In an interview with Fox News, Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained that this followed Donald Trump’s announcement of an energy ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia.
Ukraine did not carry out such strikes while Russia continued attacking Ukrainian petrol stations, energy infrastructure and other facilities. Zelenskyy described these attacks as Putin’s response to Trump’s initiative and stressed the need to increase pressure on Russia.
