Novokuibyshevsk refinery strike: what is known
Explosions were heard in Novokuibyshevsk in the morning, followed by thick smoke rising above the industrial area. Witnesses published photographs and videos of the fire from different parts of the city.
The Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery is part of Rosneft. Its design capacity is approximately 8.8 million tonnes of crude oil a year. It produces petrol, diesel, jet fuel, bitumen and petroleum coke.
Why the refinery matters to the Russian military
One of the plant’s activities is producing jet fuel used by Russian military aviation. Petroleum products are also needed for transport and military logistics.
Strikes on oil refining add to Russia’s costs: damaged facilities require repairs, while potential production disruptions force changes to fuel supply routes and sources.
Starodub: fire reported at the Konservsushprod plant
Photographs and videos of a burning building in Starodub, Bryansk region, emerged overnight on 30 October. Preliminary reports identify it as the Konservsushprod plant.
The plant manufactures canned food and supplies the Russian army through Voentorg. Facilities of this kind form part of the military supply system.
The report of a strike on this particular plant remains preliminary.
